Tripoli, 16 December 2025 (Lana) The Delegation of the European Union and the Diplomatic Missions of EU Member States to Libya welcomed the launch by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) of the Structured Dialogue, a key milestone in the political roadmap presented by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, to the United Nations Security Council in August.
In a statement, the delegation wished the participants success in forging a shared vision to address the root causes of Libya’s protracted conflict, create the conditions for credible presidential and legislative elections, and advance efforts to unify state institutions, strengthen governance, and enhance accountability.
The EU called on Libyan stakeholders from across the country to engage constructively and in good faith in the UN-facilitated political process and to move decisively to implement critical outstanding steps, including the reconstitution of the Board of the High National Elections Commission and the amendment of the electoral framework.
The statement stressed the EU Delegation and the Diplomatic Missions’ steadfast commitment to supporting progress towards a stable, sovereign, and unified Libya through the UN-facilitated, Libyan-led, and Libyan-owned political process.
