Libya will chair the Council of Ministers of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) starting in January 2026.

Tripoli, December 14, 2025 (LANA) – Acting Minister of Oil and Gas, Khalifa Abdul-Sadiq, participated in the 115th meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), held today in Kuwait, with the participation of ministers from member states.
The meeting emphasized the continuation of efforts to develop and restructure OAPEC, launching its new identity as the "Arab Energy Organization," which will enhance its regional role and keep pace with global transformations in the energy sector.
The Council also announced the winners of the 2024 OAPEC Scientific Research Award in the field of new and renewable energy.
The Council congratulated Libya on assuming the presidency of the next session of the OAPEC Council of Ministers and the organization's Executive Bureau, effective January 1, 2026.
The Council also approved the appointment of Khalid Al-Otaibi as Secretary General of the organization for a three-year term, beginning in March 2026.
