Sabratha, December 12, 2025 (LANA) – The Counter-Security Threats Unit of the Ministry of Interior announced the killing of Ahmed Omar al-Dabashi, nicknamed "al-Amu," one of the most wanted men by the Public Prosecutor's Office in the Western Region. The raid took place during a security operation carried out at dawn on Friday in the city of Sabratha.

In a statement, the unit said the raid was launched after one of its checkpoints in Sabratha was attacked by armed men late last night. The attack was carried out by "outlaw criminal gangs" affiliated with Ahmed Omar al-Fitouri al-Dabashi, nicknamed "al-Amu," who is wanted internationally for human trafficking, drug trafficking, and murder.

The statement added that, based on a warrant issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office, units of the agency raided the gang's hideout. The operation resulted in the arrest of Saleh Omar al-Dabashi, while Ahmed Omar al-Dabashi, nicknamed "al-Amu," was killed during the operation.

The Counter-Threats Agency affirmed that it will not tolerate any entity that threatens the security of the nation and the safety of its citizens, reiterating its commitment to continuing to carry out its duties firmly and decisively, in accordance with the powers granted to it by law.

Last June, the Ministry of Interior issued instructions to the Criminal Investigation Department to arrest al-Dabashi and all those involved with him for their involvement in committing crimes within the city.

Since the early morning hours, Sabratha has witnessed armed clashes between groups affiliated with al-Dabashi and forces of the Counter-Threats Agency. The confrontations have been concentrated around the hospital road, extending to the al-Tanara area on the coastal road, as well as other nearby areas.
