The meeting focused on reviewing the nature of the work of the Libyan News Agency, its legal and administrative status, and the problems it faces, particularly regarding its fixed and movable assets, most notably the land located in the Al-Sawani-Al-Karimiya area, which has been designated as public property since 1974 for the construction of its transmission stations and antennas.
In this regard, the Attorney General stressed his and the Public Prosecution's commitment to preserving the fixed and movable assets of the Libyan state, preventing any tampering with them, and holding those responsible accountable for any negligence or dereliction of duty in their management.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Libyan News Agency (LANA) provided an overview of the agency's operations and its commitment to journalistic ethics. He emphasized its role as a unified, sovereign media institution under the authority of the legislative branch, fulfilling its professional and impartial duty as the responsible party for covering local and international events throughout Libya with objectivity and neutrality.
During the meeting, Chairman Abdul Basit Aboudia expressed his gratitude to Attorney General Al-Siddiq Al-Sour for his support of the media in general and for standing by the agency in addressing past challenges related to its headquarters and the recovery of part of the land on which the transmission station was built, which had been seized by outlaws.
The meeting also addressed the general state of journalism and media in Libya. The head of the Journalists' Syndicate outlined some of the problems and obstacles hindering the syndicate's ability to defend the rights of Libyan journalists and media professionals, most notably the need for a permanent headquarters.
In this context, Attorney General Al-Siddiq Al-Sour affirmed his full support for freedom of the press, especially for responsible and committed journalism, in its role of serving the people and addressing societal issues, highlighting shortcomings in state institutions, and exposing all forms of negligence, dereliction of duty, and corruption.
