Benghazi, December 9, 2025 (LANA) – The government appointed by the parliament condemned on Monday the statements made by the Speaker of the Greek Parliament and the Greek Foreign Minister, which infringe upon Libyan sovereign rights and maritime borders. These statements were issued following their meeting with the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives and his accompanying delegation.

In a statement, the government expressed its rejection of the dictates that the Greek authorities are attempting to impose on the Libyan authorities, including Greece's refusal to ratify the Libyan-Turkish Memorandum of Understanding on maritime borders.

The statement affirmed that Libya is a sovereign state that will not accept any infringement upon its maritime rights or any questioning of its legitimate bilateral agreements. It will not permit any external party to speak on its behalf or interfere in its legal and diplomatic choices, which serve the interests of its people and guarantee their historical rights in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The statement considered the Greek statements a blatant interference in the sovereignty of Libya, which will not accept any infringement upon its maritime rights or any questioning of its legitimate bilateral agreements.

The government appointed by Parliament reiterated in its statement its commitment to its established right to the Exclusive Economic Zone in the Eastern Mediterranean, in accordance with international legal frameworks and conventions, and to taking all necessary measures to protect its rights dictated by its geographical location, while ensuring respect for the principles of good neighborliness with neighboring countries.

The statement also affirmed that the Libyan state adheres to its established right to the Exclusive Economic Zone in the Eastern Mediterranean, in accordance with international legal frameworks and conventions, and also upholds its sovereign rights to take all necessary measures to protect these rights and the gains dictated by its geographical location, while respecting the requirements of good neighborliness with neighboring countries.

The government stressed in its statement that it will not allow any external party to speak on its behalf or interfere in its legal and diplomatic choices aimed at preserving its historical rights in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The statement added that the irresponsible statements issued by Greek officials will not serve regional stability and will undermine the prospects for establishing positive neighborly relations between the two countries.

The government appointed by parliament expressed its refusal to recognize any bilateral or regional agreements or negotiations concluded by the Greek authorities that would infringe upon Libya's established interests and rights.

In its statement, the government called on the Greek authorities to cease issuing provocative statements and to engage with the competent Libyan maritime border demarcation committee, appointed by the government appointed by parliament, to raise any objections, instead of resorting to populist political rhetoric aimed at domestic consumption.
