Sisi affirms Egypt's support for all initiatives and efforts aimed at resolving the Libyan crisis, particularly those aimed at holding presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously.

Cairo, December 8, 2025 (LANA) – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi emphasized Egypt's full support for the sovereignty, stability, unity, and territorial integrity of Libya, stressing the need to confront any foreign interference and work towards the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya.

This came in a press statement by the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, following President al-Sisi's meeting today, Monday, in Cairo with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army. Also present were Major General Hassan Rashad, Director of General Intelligence; Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army; and Lieutenant General Khaled Khalifa, Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan National Army.

The spokesperson stated that President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt's support for all initiatives and efforts aimed at resolving the Libyan crisis, particularly those targeting simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections. He emphasized Egypt's commitment to continuing to provide all forms of support to the Libyan army and national institutions, within the framework of the historical and fraternal relations that bind the two countries and their brotherly peoples. The two sides also discussed developments regarding the demarcation of their shared maritime borders, agreeing on the importance of continued cooperation to serve the interests of both countries without causing any harm, in accordance with the rules of international law.

The official spokesperson for the Presidency added that Field Marshal Haftar, for his part, expressed his appreciation for the pivotal role played by Egypt and President El-Sisi personally in restoring security and stability to Libya, and for the unwavering support provided to the Libyan people since the beginning of the crisis. He affirmed his keenness to continue coordination and the exchange of views with President El-Sisi regarding various developments on the Libyan and regional scenes.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy indicated that the meeting also addressed the latest regional developments of mutual interest and the challenges facing both countries, particularly the situation in Sudan. Agreement was reached on the importance of intensifying international and regional efforts to reach a peaceful settlement that preserves Sudan's stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. In this regard, it was emphasized that Sudan's stability is closely linked to the national security of both Egypt and Libya.
