Benghazi, December 8, 2025 (LANA) – The Second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Misbah Douma, expressed his surprise and condemnation of what he described as repeated statements issued by Greek officials, most recently those attributed to the Speaker of the Greek Parliament, which include explicit calls for interference in Libyan internal affairs and a clear violation of our national sovereignty.
In a statement released by the spokesperson for the House of Representatives, Speaker Douma said, “While affirming our full respect for the principles of good neighborliness and bilateral relations based on mutual respect, we emphasize that Libya is a fully sovereign state, and it alone knows its supreme interests and how to protect them. Libya rejects any form of interference in its sovereign decisions or the imposition of political directives upon it by any external party whatsoever.”
He added, “Agreements concluded by the state are sovereign decisions subject to international laws and norms. No country has the right to dictate to Libya whether to ratify, abandon, or cancel them.” He clarified that Libyan decisions emanate from its legitimate institutions, which represent the Libyan people, and do not require gestures or directives from other capitals.
He explained that in the event of disputes regarding the demarcation of maritime borders, international legal frameworks are the reference for resolving conflicts, not media statements that lack diplomacy.
In his statement, Douma urged the Greek side to exercise restraint, respect Libyan sovereignty, and cease attempts to interfere in Libyan internal affairs.
