Tripoli, December 4, 2025 (LANA) – Military leaders in eastern and western Libya are preparing to work together to host Flintlock 2026 in Libya, one of the largest major exercises conducted by the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), with the participation of countries from Africa and Europe, according to a statement issued by the US Embassy in Libya.

“This joint effort will enhance the integration of Libyan military institutions,” said US Chargé d’Affaires Jeremy Brent in a press statement following a two-day visit to Libya by General Dagvin Anderson, commander of US Africa Command.

The Chargé d’Affaires affirmed that the United States hopes to facilitate a unified approach to addressing these challenges, noting that US Africa Command (AFRICOM) is working with the Embassy to advance US objectives in Libya and support the Libyan people in their pursuit of unity and lasting peace.

He emphasized that Libyans across the country appreciate the role of the U.S. Africa Command, its unique capabilities, and its history of supporting counterterrorism efforts in Libya.

He added, "With this visit, General Anderson has strengthened our relationships with these partners, and his continued leadership and engagement in supporting Libyan efforts to unify military and security institutions will be a crucial step toward peace and stability."

He noted that the U.S. Africa Command is one of the seven geographic combatant commands of the U.S. Department of Defense. The command is responsible for all U.S. military operations, training, security cooperation, and crisis response on the African continent, serving U.S. interests and promoting regional security and stability.

Over two days, the commander of the U.S. Africa Command, General Dagvin, met with the head of the Government of National Accord, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, in Tripoli, and the commander of the Libyan National Army, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, in Benghazi.

According to the statement, General Anderson stressed the importance of dialogue and cooperation among Libyan leaders throughout the country and that unity is essential for a peaceful and prosperous Libya. He urged all parties to engage in open dialogue and work together for lasting peace and security.

General Anderson's meetings with Libyan leaders addressed security concerns and the need for collaborative efforts to combat terrorism and organized crime, which threaten the stability of Libya and the wider region.

The commander of U.S. Africa Command affirmed that his country looks forward to strengthening relations and building capacity to help Libyans pave their way toward stability and prosperity, emphasizing its support for the Libyan-led political process.

According to the statement, Anderson stressed that enhancing security and economic integration is essential to ensuring Libya's long-term sovereignty and prosperity, and will complement and strengthen the political process.
