Tetteh affirms that respect for victims’ rights is fundamental to the success of reconciliation.

Tripoli, 4 December 2025 (Lana) UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General Hanna Tetteh stressed that reconciliation must be rooted in a rights-based, victim-centered transitional justice process.

This came during her remark yesterday in a Presidential Council workshop on the role of victims and their families in the national reconciliation process in Tripoli and was participated in by several stakeholders and those interested in the justice and reconciliation file.

“The concerns voiced by families reaffirm the need for genuine participation and respect for victims’ rights and their experiences,” she said.

She stressed that any reconciliation process will not be sustainable unless it is built on the foundations of justice and fairness and directly listens to the voices of victims.

Tetteh reiterated that the UN will continue its full support for national efforts aimed at building a comprehensive and just reconciliation process that achieves security and stability for all Libyans.
