Libya adopts the policy framework for a green and circular economy

Tripoli, December 3, 2025 (LANA) – Cairo, the Egyptian capital, hosted the adoption ceremony of the “Policy Framework for a Green and Circular Economy in Libya” on Wednesday, on the sidelines of the 24th Conference of the Parties to the Barcelona Convention (COP24).

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Environment of the Government of National Unity, Ibrahim Al-Arabi, who affirmed that the new framework represents a significant milestone in establishing the principles of sustainable development within Libya and strengthening the transition towards a more efficient, resilient, and innovative economy.

The Ministry of Environment explained on its official Facebook page that the adopted document is part of the “Green Progress” project initiative, funded by the European Union and implemented by Expertise France, within a regional scope encompassing eight countries in the southern Mediterranean.

The Ministry also commended the outstanding performance of the Libyan team, which was the first among the participating countries to complete and finalize its integrated policy framework. This, the Ministry considered an indication of Libya’s commitment to the global effort aimed at reducing emissions and promoting the sustainable management of natural resources.
