The United Nations affirms its support for women's rights in Libya.

Tripoli, November 26, 2025 (LANA) – The United Nations reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting women’s rights in Libya in a statement issued Tuesday evening by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Ms. Tetteh, on the occasion of the launch of the “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence” campaign.

In her statement, Ms. Tetteh emphasized the importance of continuing Libyan efforts to combat all forms of violence against women, stressing the need to close existing legal gaps and align national legislation with international best practices. She also highlighted the importance of adopting the draft law on protecting women from violence, which was prepared by a group of Libyan experts in this field, according to the statement.

In closing, the UN envoy stressed that the safety, dignity, and freedom of expression of women are fundamental human rights and a shared national responsibility. She affirmed that protecting and empowering Libyan women is a cornerstone for building a society in which all its citizens can contribute equally to achieving peace, strengthening stability, and shaping Libya’s future.
