New York, November 25, 2025 (LANA) – The United States representative to the Security Council affirmed that ending instability and ensuring accountability will help reduce violence and the power of armed groups responsible for serious human rights violations in Libya.

In his remarks during the International Criminal Court's briefing to the Security Council on Libya on Tuesday, he said, "We are concerned about the lack of respect for the rule of law in official and unofficial detention facilities, which has allowed these violations to occur with impunity."

He noted the meetings and efforts of the US Special Envoy to Africa, Massad Boulos, and said that he held meetings with officials from 10 countries to reaffirm the United States' commitment to Libya's progress and its path toward stability, security, and prosperity.

The US representative commended the Office of the Prosecutor for the arrest of Osama Najim, calling on Libyan authorities to hold him accountable for numerous human rights violations.

He urged Libyan authorities to ensure that former officials of the Gaddafi regime face justice and stressed the need to address past grievances to break the cycle of violence in Libya and ensure peace, stability, and prosperity for the Libyan people in the future.
