Egyptian Foreign Minister meets with Tetteh.

Cairo, 11 November 2025 (Lana): Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty met in Cairo with Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya Hanna Tetteh as part of ongoing coordination and close consultation with the UN regarding developments in Libya and ways to support efforts toward a comprehensive political settlement of the crisis.
The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Tamim Khallaf, stated that Minister Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's position on the Libyan crisis, based on adherence to a Libyan-led political solution without any foreign interference, as the only way to restore security and stability in the country.
The minister also reiterated Egypt’s support for UNSMIL’s roadmap, stressing the importance of moving forward with its pillars, foremost among them the formation of a new unified government tasked with preparing for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, emphasizing the need to adhere to the announced timeframe to maintain the credibility of the political process and fulfill the aspirations of the Libyan people for stability and development.
Abdelatty stated that Egypt continues its intensive contacts with various Libyan parties to support the national dialogue process and urges all parties to engage seriously in the political process in a way that returns Libya to the Libyans and preserves its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
He stressed the importance of the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libyan territory without exception or delay, in compliance with relevant Security Council resolutions, considering this a fundamental condition for achieving lasting stability.
He also emphasized the need to adopt a comprehensive approach to addressing the Libyan crisis that takes into account all political, economic, security, and social dimensions and not to limit itself to one track to the exclusion of others to ensure addressing the root causes of the crisis and contribute to achieving sustainable stability in Libya and the entire region.
The meeting concluded with an affirmation of Egypt's continued full support for international and regional efforts aimed at resolving the Libyan crisis, establishing security and stability, and supporting Libyan national institutions to enable them to fulfill their responsibilities and achieve the aspirations of the brotherly Libyan people for security, development, and prosperity.
For her part, Tetteh thanked the minister for Egypt’s continued support of the work of the UN and underlined the need for a political process that preserves stability and advances the country toward unity and credible elections.
