Cairo, November 10, 2025 (LANA) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Ati affirmed Egypt's steadfast position on the Libyan crisis, based on adherence to a Libyan-led political solution without any external dictates or interference, as the only way to restore security and stability in the country.

This came during his meeting on Monday with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, as part of Egypt's commitment to continued close coordination and consultation with the United Nations regarding developments in Libya and ways to support efforts for a comprehensive political settlement to the crisis, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, Abdel-Ati reiterated Egypt's full support for the efforts of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to implement the UN roadmap, praising her efforts in this regard.

He also stressed the importance of moving forward with the implementation of the pillars of the roadmap, foremost among them the formation of a new unified government tasked with preparing for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, while emphasizing the need to adhere to the announced timeframe to maintain the credibility of the political process and achieve the aspirations of the Libyan people for stability and development.

Minister Abdel-Ati explained that Egypt is continuing its intensive contacts with various Libyan parties to support the national dialogue process and urged all parties to engage seriously in the political process in a way that returns Libya to the Libyans and preserves its territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister stressed the importance of the withdrawal of all foreign forces, foreign fighters, and mercenaries from Libyan territory without exception or delay, in compliance with relevant Security Council resolutions, considering this a fundamental condition for achieving lasting stability.

Abdel-Ati called for the adoption of a comprehensive approach to addressing the Libyan crisis, one that takes into account all political, economic, security, and social dimensions, and does not limit itself to one track to the exclusion of others. This approach should ensure that the root causes of the crisis are addressed and contribute to achieving sustainable stability in Libya and the entire region.

The meeting concluded, according to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, with an affirmation of Egypt's continued full support for international and regional efforts aimed at resolving the Libyan crisis, establishing security and stability, and supporting Libyan national state institutions to enable them to fulfill their responsibilities and achieve the aspirations of the Libyan people for security, development, and prosperity.
