Tripoli, November 6, 2025 (LANA) – Italian Deputy Foreign Minister for International Cooperation, Giorgio Celli, affirmed on Thursday that the signing of the contract for the implementation of the western section of the coastal road project between Emsaad and Ras Jedir represents a practical step towards strengthening the strategic partnership between Libya and Italy. He added that it embodies the shared will to build a future based on cooperation, development, and mutual respect.

In his remarks during the signing ceremony in Tripoli, the Italian official stated, "Our presence here today is not only for the sake of friendship, but also for the important goal we all strive to achieve: the implementation of the road project idea, which originated in 2008."

He added, "I remember being a young man that year and witnessing the signing ceremony and the Italian financial contribution, which aimed to turn the page on the past and look to the future, serving all of North Africa, not just Libya, by connecting the Arab East with the Arab West through a road that forms a axis for development and builds increasing ties between Libya and its neighboring countries."

He noted that "today an Italian company was commissioned to implement the western section of the road, while the other agreement covers the eastern section. It is important that workshops on both sides begin simultaneously to ensure balanced progress for the project."

He added that Italy is demonstrating its genuine rapprochement with Libya through concrete initiatives, such as resuming flights between Tripoli and Benghazi and organizing joint economic forums and events. He emphasized that Libya represents an economic and strategic partner and a promising market for Italian companies, particularly in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

He said, "We want all Italian companies operating in Libya to be ambassadors for Italy to the world, conveying the spirit of cooperation and partnership that unites our two countries."

He affirmed that Italy is committed to Libya's stability and unity and to promoting the values of peace and democracy that the Libyan people aspire to. He added that stability in Libya is a prerequisite for the continuation and development of the bilateral partnership towards higher levels of cooperation.

He pointed out that "Rome and Washington are on the same page regarding support for Libya, and we will continue working to mobilize the international community to contribute to building peace and prosperity in Libya and the region, and to support all initiatives for stability and development." The Italian Deputy Foreign Minister concluded by saying, "On behalf of my government, I would like to emphasize that Libya can count on Italy and its unwavering commitment to supporting it. I also call for closer ties and cooperation between our two countries to build a genuine partnership based on mutual trust and shared interests."
