Tripoli, November 4, 2025 (LANA) – The Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Naji Issa, affirmed that the country faces economic and financial challenges that necessitate increased cooperation and joint efforts to support the path of sustainable development.
In his address at the "Banking Investment and its Role in Promoting Economic Development" seminar, organized by the Central Bank today in Tripoli, Issa emphasized that activating the developmental role of the banking sector requires a suitable legislative and regulatory environment, as well as a genuine partnership among financial institutions.
The Governor explained that the bank's contribution to economic activity remains below expectations, despite its substantial financial resources, due to the Libyan economy's reliance on the energy sector and the limited diversification of income sources. He noted that the current phase requires working to define a new role for banks in supporting the national economy and promoting sustainable development.
Naji Issa affirmed the Central Bank's commitment to continuing efforts aimed at developing the banking sector, enhancing financial inclusion, and building trust in the banking sector.
