Al-Lafi discusses with the UN envoy (Hanna Tetteh) the political situation and the obstacles hindering the implementation of national entitlements in the country

Tripoli, November 3, 2025 (LANA) – Presidential Council member Abdullah Al-Lafi met today, Monday, with the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative to Libya, Hanna Tetteh, to discuss the latest political developments and the obstacles hindering the implementation of national obligations in the country.

During their meeting at the Council's headquarters in Tripoli, the two sides also discussed mechanisms to strengthen the UN's role in supporting a consensual solution to end the current stalemate.

Al-Lafi stressed the necessity for UN efforts to be based on a purely Libyan national vision that preserves sovereignty, noting that the current stage requires clearer and more serious positions from political parties to revive consensus.

He also affirmed that the Presidential Council will continue working to secure a solid foundation for holding elections and advancing the national reconciliation process in the country.

The meeting also included discussions on regional issues, the repercussions of the Sudanese crisis, and the transformations in the Sahel region on Libya's security. Al-Lafi emphasized the need for more effective international coordination to protect stability.

For her part, Hanna Tetteh affirmed the United Nations' commitment to supporting Libya and its people, and to working with all national parties to secure a comprehensive and sustainable settlement that guarantees the country's unity and stability.
