The Syrian Foreign Ministry announces the commencement of providing consular services to its nationals in Benghazi.

Damascus, October 28, 2025 (LANA) - The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Sunday the commencement of consular services for Syrian citizens in the city of Benghazi, starting Monday, October 27.

The ministry explained that the services will include extending expired passports and issuing temporary laissez-passer documents valid for 90 days only.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry's statement indicated that obtaining a laissez-passer document requires submitting an official ID or birth certificate issued by the relevant Libyan authorities, along with two recent, identical personal photos of the applicant, and the presence of the applicant or a first-degree relative.

The statement indicated that the technical delegation from the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will begin its duties at the temporary headquarters in Benghazi Events Hall No. (1) within the Benghazi Parks Complex, from Monday, October 27, to Saturday, November 1, 2025.

Unofficial estimates issued by local organizations in Libya indicate that the number of Syrians residing in the country ranges between 30,000 and 50,000 people.
