Libya and China discuss holding economic forum before the end of this year.

Tripoli, 26 October 2025 (Lana)—Chairman of the High Committee for Libyan-Chinese Cooperation, Abdul-Majed Mlegta, discussed with Chargé d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Libya, Liu Jian, ways to enhance economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

This came during a meeting held in Tunis on Friday in the presence of a member of the committee and head of the Libyan-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Amin Al-Bakoush, according to a report by the Government of National Unity's (GNU) Platform.

The meeting addressed the possibility of opening a direct shipping line, in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, from China to Misrata and Tripoli airports, in addition to facilitating visa procedures for Libyan citizens and lifting Chinese customs tariffs on Libyan goods.

The two sides also discussed ongoing preparations for holding a Libyan-Chinese Economic Forum before the end of this year, which aims to expand the prospects of cooperation and joint investment between the two countries.

According to the platform, Liu Jian ​​confirmed that he will officially begin work at the embassy headquarters in Tripoli, starting in mid-November, with the aim of developing bilateral relations and supporting joint projects with Libya.
