The UN mission commends the Libyan parties' commitment to the ceasefire agreement on its fifth anniversary.

Tripoli, October 23, 2025 (LANA) – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) commended the Libyan parties' continued commitment to implementing the terms of the ceasefire agreement, marking the fifth anniversary of the signing of the agreement, which was concluded on this day in 2020.

In a statement issued today, the Mission expressed its deep appreciation to the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC) and its subcommittees for their dedication and continuous efforts in serving the Libyan people and promoting peace and stability in the country.

In its statement, the Mission affirmed its commitment to continuing to work with the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC) and its subcommittees to maintain the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and follow up on all its provisions, contributing to consolidating security and strengthening the comprehensive political process aimed at achieving lasting peace and sustainable stability in Libya.

The mission emphasized that the ceasefire agreement is one of the most significant national achievements that has contributed to alleviating the suffering of Libyans and rebuilding trust between the various parties. It affirmed the United Nations' continued support for all national efforts aimed at strengthening Libyan unity and achieving the people's aspirations for security and development.
