Cairo, October 23, 2025 (LANA) - Egypt and the European Union renewed their support for the efforts of the United Nations in Libya, particularly the roadmap of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), which aims to ensure peace, stability, national sovereignty, and national unity in the country.
This came in a joint statement issued at the conclusion of a summit held yesterday, Wednesday, in the Belgian capital, Brussels, which addressed bilateral relations and prominent regional issues, most notably the Libyan crisis.
The statement stressed the importance of the political process being Libyan-led and Libyan-owned, ensuring the reunification of all state institutions and the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections within a specific timeframe.
The two sides also emphasized the need to reunify all Libyan armed and security forces, as well as the withdrawal of all foreign forces, mercenaries, and foreign fighters from Libyan territory.
This statement comes within the framework of the international community's support for efforts to achieve stability and development in Libya and strengthen its sovereignty and national unity.
