New York, October 19, 2025 (LANA) - The State of Libya called on the international community to work towards a nuclear-weapon-free Middle East and to subject all relevant facilities to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards system.
This came in a speech delivered by Ambassador Essam Omran Bin Zeitoun, a member of the Permanent Mission to the United Nations, before the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly on Disarmament and International Security, during the 80th session held in New York.
In his speech, Bin Zeitoun emphasized Libya's firm position rejecting nuclear weapons programs and weapons of mass destruction, according to a statement published by the Permanent Mission of Libya to the United Nations on its website.
He also reiterated Libya's commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter and its support for efforts to establish international peace and security, emphasizing that true security can only be achieved through just peace and comprehensive disarmament.
