New York, October 19, 2025 (LANA) - The State of Libya reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter and its support for efforts to achieve international peace and security, affirming its rejection of the use or threat of force and emphasizing that a just peace and comprehensive disarmament are the true path to ensuring global security.

This came in the national statement delivered by Ambassador Issam Omran Bin Zaytoun, a member of the Permanent Mission to the United Nations, before the First Committee of the General Assembly on Disarmament and International Security, during the 80th session held in New York last Friday.

Ambassador Bin Zaytoun affirmed Libya's firm position rejecting nuclear weapons programs and weapons of mass destruction, calling for action to achieve a Middle East free of nuclear weapons and for all nuclear facilities to be subjected to the safeguards system of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The Ambassador strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and the resulting humanitarian catastrophe that has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of civilians. He emphasized that these crimes represent a flagrant violation of international law and a "stain on the brow of humanity."

The statement concluded by affirming Libya's commitment to its active role within the United Nations as a sincere Arab voice, defending human values and the rights of peoples, foremost among them the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. It also reiterated Libya's support for multilateral action to achieve a just and lasting peace in the world.
