The UN roadmap for Libya: a single package ending with elections and acceptance of their results.

Tripoli, October 16, 2025 (LANA) – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) confirmed that the proposed political roadmap to end the country's transitional phases does not include a specific timetable for separate components. Rather, it is to be implemented as an integrated unit within a phased sequence that ultimately leads to the organization of national elections and the acceptance of their results.
In a post on its X platform account, the mission explained that implementing the advanced roadmap requires a period of 12 to 18 months, contingent on the political will of all Libyan parties and broad popular support that enables the successful implementation of the phases.
The mission emphasized that each phase of the roadmap is to be implemented sequentially and interconnectedly, with the success of the first phase being a key prelude to the next phase, leading to the ultimate goal of holding comprehensive national elections that end the state of division and establish a lasting period of stability.
The mission called on all Libyan parties to engage positively with this plan, seize the opportunity to prioritize the national interest, and move toward a comprehensive and sustainable political solution.
