New York, October 15, 2025 (LANA) – Libya's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Taher Al-Sunni, reiterated his call during his address to the UN Security Council on Tuesday for the need to end the Libyan crisis through a clear UN plan and a specific timetable that guarantees genuine representation of all political forces without exclusion, and that puts an end to divisions and foreign interference.

At the beginning of his speech, Al-Sunni said, "There is nothing really to comment on or anything new to discuss. Everyone is waiting for the progress of the announced UN plan and the start of the actual political process." He added that Libyan citizens are looking forward to tangible results that will restore hope for ending the "vicious cycle" that the country has been experiencing for years.

Ambassador Al-Sunni stressed that the Libyan crisis requires responsible engagement from all parties, both internally and externally, while supporting sincere national efforts aimed at achieving stability and building a state of institutions and the rule of law.

He emphasized that the success of UN mediation efforts depends on clear results and ensuring the participation of all active forces at the dialogue table. He called for enabling Libyans to identify those obstructing their aspirations and those actively working to achieve them, in preparation for holding general elections conducted according to fair and enforceable laws, with guaranteed respect for their results.

In a direct reference, Al-Sunni conveyed what he described as "the voice of the Libyan citizen," saying: "The Libyan citizen wants to end the transitional phases and division, and to choose their representatives without dictatorship or individual domination.

They want a unified civil state, with a permanent constitution, a peaceful transfer of power, and respect for national legislation.

They want a healthy economy, available basic services, and honest partnerships, free from corruption and foreign domination.

They want real security, with a unified national army that ends the influence of militias and foreign presence.

They want justice, accountability for criminals, an end to impunity, and the achievement of comprehensive national reconciliation."

Al-Sunni asked the Security Council members: "What are your guarantees for achieving these demands? If the task is not possible after all these years, then let the Libyan people take charge of their own affairs and lift the tutelage of this Council and the international restrictions that have themselves become divided."

Concluding his remarks, Al-Sunni emphasized Libya's openness to the world, provided its sovereignty is respected, saying: "Libya is not isolated from the world, and it accommodates everyone within the principles of equality and respect for sovereignty. Make it a priority in global peace initiatives, so that efforts can be directed toward construction and reconstruction, rather than conflict and destruction."
