New York, October 14, 2025 (LANA) - The US representative to the Security Council called for the unification of Libyan political institutions, considering it essential to ensuring prosperity for all Libyans and enabling Libya to defend its sovereignty, protect its borders, and prevent the use of its territory to spread threats such as migration, terrorism, and smuggling.

In her address to the Security Council session on Libya on Tuesday, she said, "Our goal is to see Libya under a single government capable of extending its authority throughout the country, imposing security, and opening the doors to economic opportunities."

The US representative also called on the international community to work together to strengthen independent institutions in Libya, such as the National Oil Corporation, the Central Bank, and the Audit Bureau.

She stressed the need for security integration between institutions in eastern and western Libya to contribute to achieving international security and stability.

The US representative urged all stakeholders in Libya to engage with the UN roadmap in good faith to advance this Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process.
