New York, October 14, 2025 (LANA) - The British representative to the UN Security Council stressed that the lack of political progress in Libya is deepening instability, corruption, and economic mismanagement, expressing his regret over the failure to implement the UN roadmap.

In his remarks during the UN Security Council meeting on Libya on Tuesday, he said, "It is disappointing that the first milestones of the roadmap have not been implemented. I call on the House of Representatives and the High Council of State to complete this work expeditiously."

The British representative emphasized that the Libyan political impasse deprives Libyans of democratic choice, economic opportunities, and security. He expressed his country's support for the efforts of the UN mission to advance the political process in Libya, noting that the current situation is not sustainable.

The British representative called on the Libyan parties to engage in this process with the aim of holding free, fair, transparent, and inclusive national elections and enabling the commission to complete the municipal elections.

He welcomed the agreement reached between the Government of National Unity and the Deterrence Force, considering it an important step towards reducing tensions in the capital, Tripoli.

The British representative expressed his country's aspiration to launch a structured dialogue based on the roadmap proposed by the United Nations, as this process is an important measure to maintain political momentum.
