AFRICOM announces the organization of its annual special forces exercise in Sirte, with the participation of security forces from all regions of Libya.

Sirte, October 14, 2025 (LANA) – Lieutenant General John Brennan, Deputy Commander of the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), announced in Sirte on Tuesday that AFRICOM's most important annual special operations forces exercise, Flintlock 2026, will be held primarily in Libya, with the participation of security forces from all Libyan regions, as well as Italy and other key partners.

According to a statement issued by the US Embassy in Libya, the Flintlock exercise aims to enhance coordination and joint capabilities among allies and partners through joint command and control in counterterrorism operations.

AFRICOM said, "We are honored that part of this important event will be held in Sirte, a city that has previously witnessed strong security cooperation between the United States and Libya in the field of counterterrorism. AFRICOM will continue to support our joint efforts in professional training and reinforce our shared commitment to stability, peace, and prosperity in the region."

AFRICOM thanked the security forces from eastern and western Libya, as well as the Italian government, for facilitating preparations for this joint exercise in Sirte, expressing its aspiration to continued cooperation with Libyan partners from across the country to achieve the shared goals of regional peace and mutual prosperity.
