Tripoli, October 13, 2025 (LANA) – The Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Stephanie Khoury, discussed with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Counselor Aguila Saleh, during a phone call yesterday, ways to move forward with the political roadmap facilitated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).

During the call, Khoury stressed the need to complete the first two steps of the roadmap: amending the legislative and constitutional frameworks for elections and reconstituting the board of directors of the High National Elections Commission.

For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives reiterated the House's commitment to working with the High Council of State to complete the process as soon as possible.

Khoury stressed the importance of Libyan institutions assuming a leadership role and assuming their responsibilities towards the Libyan people, and the urgent need to complete the first two steps of the political roadmap, emphasizing that the country cannot afford further delays in achieving unified and legitimate institutions.
