Tripoli, October 12, 2025 (LANA) - The President of the Audit Bureau, Khaled Shakshak, followed up with several healthcare institutions on drug supply operations and ensuring the safety of drug stocks.
This came during his meeting today, Sunday, at the Audit Bureau headquarters in Tripoli, with the Chairman of the National General Authority for Organ, Tissue, and Cell Transplantation, the Chairman of the National Authority for Kidney Diseases, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Medical Supply Authority, the Chairman of the Public Tender Committee, and the Deputy Director of the National Center for Disease Control, along with directors of relevant departments from the Bureau and relevant authorities.
The Audit Bureau stated that this meeting comes within the framework of following up on observations previously raised by the Bureau in several letters. These observations relate to the continued phenomenon of double-supply of drugs and medical supplies, and the resulting risks to the safety of drug stocks and the waste of public funds. This is a matter the Bureau has long warned against and called for rectification through effective coordination between the relevant authorities until the current legal framework is addressed.
According to the same source, the meeting discussed recent corrective measures, including coordination between the National Center for Disease Control and the Medical Supply Authority regarding the receipt of supplied items, controlling the preparation of needs to take into account available quantities, avoiding duplication, and ensuring optimal use of inventory.
The responsibilities assigned to each of the Organ Transplant Authority and the Kidney Diseases Authority regarding the dispensing of patient medications were also discussed. An interim mechanism for coordination and data exchange using the electronic systems of each entity was agreed upon, pending the resolution of the legal framework regulating the work of the two bodies and the development of a unified patient database.
The Court explained that this meeting was part of the Audit Bureau's oversight and preventative role, which aims to address shortcomings and emphasize the need to rectify procedures to ensure the safety of the health sector, rationalize spending, and preserve public funds.
