Tripoli, October 7, 2025 (LANA) – The Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Stephanie Khoury, held a meeting yesterday with representatives of the first Youth Leadership Conference, hosted by the city of Zawiya last August. This meeting comes as part of the UN mission's support for youth participation in building Libya's future.

During the meeting, the participating youth reviewed the most prominent initiatives they have launched to enhance their role in political and community life, stressing their commitment to raising citizens' awareness of their rights and duties, amid concerns about the ongoing political crisis and the disruption of the electoral process.

Khoury praised the spirit of initiative and responsibility demonstrated by the participants, stressing the need for political leaders to assume their responsibilities towards the Libyan people, particularly with regard to providing public services and moving forward with the implementation of the political roadmap aimed at unifying institutions and holding comprehensive national elections.

Khoury also discussed with the conference representatives the limited progress made since the last briefing to the Security Council on August 21 regarding the first step towards elections, stressing the importance of advancing this process.

The Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya reiterated UNSMIL's commitment to engaging all segments of Libyan society, especially youth, women, persons with disabilities, and cultural components, in the upcoming structured national dialogue, ensuring the inclusiveness of the political process and the voices of all Libyans.
