Tripoli, October 2, 2025 (LANA) – The Embassy of the State of Palestine in Libya condemned, on Thursday, the Israeli occupation's attack on the "Sumood Flotilla," particularly the ship "Omar Al-Mukhtar." It called on the international community to urgently intervene to ensure the safety of the participants, including Libyan solidarity activists, and to hold the occupation accountable for its repeated attacks on peaceful humanitarian efforts and its ongoing violation of international law.

The embassy explained, in a statement published on its official page, that this aggression constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and norms, including the Convention on the Law of the Sea. It also constitutes a direct attack on the defenseless civilians participating in the flotilla, which numbered more than 470 people from various countries around the world, including our Libyan brothers who shouldered a humanitarian and moral duty to break the unjust blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip and deliver humanitarian aid to our besieged people, who are being targeted by policies of starvation and genocide.

The embassy affirmed that the Sumood Flotilla, including the Libyan ship "Omar Al-Mukhtar," is a purely peaceful and civilian initiative, and enjoys the right of free passage in international waters, as well as in Palestinian territorial waters, in accordance with the provisions of international law and international legitimacy resolutions.

The statement emphasized that Israel, whose occupation has been declared illegal by the International Court of Justice, has no legal authority over these waters.

The Embassy of the State of Palestine highly valued the honorable stance of the Libyan participants in the Sumood Flotilla, considering their participation an extension of the historical stance of the brotherly Libyan people in supporting the Palestinian cause and defending the rights of our people.
