Tripoli, September 29, 2025 (LANA) – Libya briefed the European Union on the new Libyan initiative to directly support voluntary returns, in coordination with the embassies of migrants' countries of origin, to ensure the file is handled in a practical and effective manner.
This came during a field visit conducted today, Monday, by the Head of the Border Guard Service and Head of the Technical Committee for Monitoring the File, Major General Mohammed Al-Marhani, accompanied by the EU Ambassador to Libya, Mr. Nicola Orlando, to the site designated as a reception center for registered migrants wishing to voluntarily return to their countries.
According to a statement published by the Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Unity, the visit emphasized the importance of ensuring that all returns are safe and voluntary, and that they are conducted in accordance with internationally recognized humanitarian standards. It also emphasized the importance of closely monitoring the implementation of this process, in cooperation with international partners, to enhance efforts to voluntarily return migrants across Libya.
