Tripoli, 29 September 2025 (Lana) The Political Working Group of the International Follow-up Committee on Libya of the Berlin Process welcomed the political roadmap announced by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to the Security Council on August 21.
This came during a meeting held by the Group last Thursday at the mission’s headquarters in Tripoli, where the participants discussed the UN roadmap and ways to support its implementation by the Group’s members.
According to the mission on its official website yesterday, the participants, including ambassadors or diplomatic representatives accredited to Libya of the African Union, Algeria, China, Egypt, the European Union, France, Germany, Italy, the League of Arab States, Morocco, the Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Tunisia, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America, encouraged all relevant actors to engage fully and in good faith to progress a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process with UNSMIL facilitation.
The participants stressed the need to implement the roadmap in all its stages and timeline and underscored the importance of accountability for any obstruction while stressing the key role of the international community to support this process.
The participants further encouraged concerned Libyan institutions to complete the first two steps of the roadmap within the suggested time frames, including reconstituting the High National Elections Commission Board of Directors and amending the legal and constitutional framework for holding legislative and presidential elections.
