Tripoli, September 28, 2025 (LANA) – The Ministry of Oil of the Government of National Unity and the European Union Delegation to Libya agreed to direct current programs towards supporting renewable energy, climate action, and promoting economic diversification. This will contribute to achieving the shared goals of long-term sustainable growth for Libya and enhancing energy security in Europe.

This came during a meeting held today, Sunday, in Tripoli by Oil Minister Khalifa Abdul Sadiq Al-Sadig and the European Union Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, to discuss prospects for cooperation between Libya and the European Union in the energy sector.

Ambassador Orlando said in a tweet on his official page: "This meeting builds on the success of last week's conference on a just and sustainable energy transition."

He added, "We also discussed the significant impact oil smuggling has on the Libyan economy and the urgent need to address this challenge through domestic reforms and coordinated international support."

The ambassador noted that engaging youth and women will be a key focus of the two sides' joint efforts to build a more sustainable and prosperous future.
