Newly elected mayors and members of municipal councils take the legal oath before Dabaiba.

Tripoli, September 25, 2025 (LANA) - The newly elected mayors and members of municipal councils took the legal oath on Thursday before the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba. The oath was attended by a number of ministers, ambassadors, diplomats, and officials from the relevant departments of the Ministry of Local Government.

In his speech, the Prime Minister emphasized that the success of the municipal elections proves Libya's ability to carry out its major national obligations and sends a clear message that the Libyan people are ready for presidential and parliamentary elections and will not allow anyone to confiscate their right to choose their leaders through the ballot box.

Dabaiba warned against any attempts to obstruct or prevent the elections, stressing that those who seek to disrupt the elections bear full responsibility and that the democratic will of the Libyan people will not be hindered in any way.

Dabaiba noted that direct elections will remain the government's firm choice to end division and achieve national unity.

298 elected members from 35 municipal councils took the oath of office, including the municipalities of Zliten, Qasr Al-Akhyar, Maslata, Al-Qarabulli, Souq Al-Juma, Ain Zara, Abu Salim, Tripoli Center, Hay Al-Andalus, Al-Maya, Swani Bani Adam, Al-Azizia, Al-Maamoura, Al-Zahraa, Al-Zawiya Center, Al-Zawiya Al-Wusta, Al-Zawiya North, Al-Zawiya West, Al-Zawiya South, Bir Al-Ghanam, Sabratha, Surman, Al-Ajilat, Al-Jamil, Al-Manshiya, Raqdalin, Nalut, Al-Asabaa, Kikla, Batin Al-Jabal, Yafran, Zahir Al-Jabal, Jadu, Tabqa and Ain Al-Azahra, and Al-Shwerif.
