New York, September 25, 2025 (LANA) – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomed the launch of the Audit Bureau's strategic anti-corruption plan, which was announced yesterday during an official ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the Bureau's establishment. The ceremony was attended by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, and her Deputy Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Ulrika Richardson.
The UN Mission commended this step, considering it a clear embodiment of the commitment of Libyan state institutions to transparency, accountability, and the promotion of good governance. UNSMIL affirmed its full support for the implementation of the plan and the Audit Bureau's efforts to combat corruption.
According to UNSMIL, the strategic plan, prepared by the Audit Bureau in cooperation with the National Anti-Corruption Authority, targets six vital areas considered among the most vulnerable to corruption: public finance, government support, procurement of medicines and medical supplies, diplomatic appointments, the oil sector, and foreign investments.
The mission emphasized that effective and accountable public financial management is a fundamental pillar for addressing corruption, as it directly impacts the state's ability to provide basic services and enhance citizens' confidence in its institutions.
The United Nations Mission, along with the United Nations agencies, funds, and programs operating in Libya, affirmed its readiness to provide the necessary technical and logistical support to ensure the success of this ambitious plan, based on its commitment to supporting reform efforts and building effective institutions that serve the interests of the Libyan people.
