New York, September 24, 2025 (LANA) - The United States of America stressed the importance of security integration between eastern and western Libya to enhance the country's contribution to regional stability and security.

This came in a statement issued by the United States government after chairing a meeting yesterday, Tuesday, that included senior officials from Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the General Assembly meetings to discuss building a strong economic foundation for unity and security in Libya.

The statement, published by the US State Department on its official website, stressed that unifying political institutions is critical to promoting the prosperity of all Libyans and enabling the country to defend its sovereignty, protect its borders, and prevent the use of its territory to spread security threats such as illegal migration and arms trafficking.

The US Presidency reaffirmed the international community's strong commitment to supporting Libya on its path toward greater unity, stability, and prosperity.

The Presidency welcomed the briefing by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, expressing its appreciation for the UN envoy's distinguished efforts in supporting the Libyan political process.

According to the statement, Tetteh briefed the participants on the efforts being made to implement the political roadmap of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and promote effective dialogue among the various Libyan parties.

The Presidency commended the participants' support for the amendment to the arms embargo imposed by the Security Council, which has enabled initial steps, including joint training and technical assistance, to enhance security integration in Libya. The Presidency noted that the participants discussed ways to build on these gains to enhance Libya's ability to protect its security.

The Presidency also emphasized the importance of building a strong Libyan economy to achieve greater security, stability, and prosperity for the country.

The Presidency emphasized the need for all participants to work together to strengthen independent and professional national institutions, such as the National Oil Corporation, the Central Bank of Libya, and the Financial Oversight Authority, and enable them to support economic stability in Libya and foster a stable business environment.

The participants agreed that coordinated international efforts to support economic stability, create investment opportunities, and protect the country's resources will contribute to promoting unity and prosperity.

The meeting's presidency welcomed the participants' support for the political roadmap of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to build consensus among the Libyan parties.

The participants discussed their countries' perspectives and working methods, as well as the interim steps that all participants can contribute to putting Libya on a more stable and unified path.
