New York, September 21, 2025 (LANA) – Britain, Canada, and Australia announced on Sunday their official recognition of the State of Palestine, a move described as part of coordinated international efforts to revive the peace process and achieve a two-state solution.

In a statement via the X platform, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: "Today we recognized the State of Palestine with the aim of reviving the hope of peace between Palestinians and Israelis. Today we join more than 150 countries around the world that have officially recognized the State of Palestine."

Starmer affirmed that his country is working to keep the option of peace and the two-state solution alive, adding that he has issued directives to take measures to impose new sanctions on figures in the Hamas movement in the coming weeks. He explained that "Hamas should have no role in the future of Palestine, whether in administration or security."

In the same context, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced his country's recognition of the State of Palestine, noting that "Israel is taking systematic steps to obstruct the establishment of a Palestinian state," adding that Canada's decision comes within the framework of a joint international effort to advance the two-state solution.

For its part, Australia affirmed that its recognition of the Palestinian state falls within international efforts to achieve comprehensive peace, noting that establishing diplomatic relations and opening embassies with Palestine will depend on the Palestinian Authority's commitment to implementing internal reforms.

The Australian government added that the international community is currently working on a comprehensive plan to rebuild the Gaza Strip and build Palestinian state institutions, while ensuring Israel's security.

It is worth noting that nine countries—including France, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, Andorra, San Marino, and Portugal—officially announced their intention to recognize the State of Palestine, ahead of the UN General Assembly meetings in New York.
