Doha, September 21, 2025 (Lana) US Presidential Advisor for African Affairs, Massad Boulos, described the meeting held in Rome between the two parties to the Libyan conflict about two weeks ago as "very important," noting that it represents the first direct dialogue between the two sides in a long time.

In an interview with Al Jazeera on Friday, Boulos stated that the meeting witnessed an in-depth discussion about practical steps the two sides can take to unify Libyan institutions and achieve lasting national unity.

The US advisor emphasized that a solution to the Libyan crisis must be long-term, solid, and based on solid foundations, stressing the need for this solution to be acceptable to both conflicting parties, as well as to other Libyan components on a broader popular scale.

Boulos revealed that representatives of the two conflicting parties regularly visit Washington, D.C., to discuss ways to reach a comprehensive and sustainable solution to the Libyan crisis.
