Tripoli , September 18, 2025 (LANA) – The President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, opened the 7th meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the Reconciliation Project today, Thursday, in Tripoli. The meeting was attended by the African Union Mission, ambassadors of the countries of the High-Level Committee on Libya, and representatives of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.
The media office of the President of the Libyan Presidential Council stated that Al-Menfi welcomed the members of the Preparatory Committee, representatives of the African Union, diplomatic missions, and international organizations, in his opening remarks. He emphasized that "the meeting is being held at a critical historical moment for Libya. He pointed out that the presence of loyal Libyans and our regional and international partners reflects a deep awareness that national reconciliation is not merely an internal matter, but rather an issue linked to the security and stability of the region."
He added that the Presidential Council places national reconciliation at the forefront of its priorities, as it is the solid foundation for building a unified and secure state governed by the rule of law and respect for rights and freedoms. He added that the international community, led by the African Union, remains a key partner of the Council.
He continued, "The success of reconciliation requires sincere will and courageous concessions. It requires that we place the nation's interests above all else, far removed from narrow calculations. The people of Libya are capable of overcoming their differences and uniting around a single national project that opens horizons of peace, development, and prosperity for future generations."
He concluded his remarks by giving permission for the meeting to begin, and to continue working with a spirit of national and humanitarian responsibility to achieve the goal we all aspire to: "A unified, stable, prosperous Libya, enjoying peace, and actively participating in its regional and international environment."
