Syria welcomes the exemption of its citizens in Libya from residency fines until the end of 2025.

Tripoli, September 18, 2025 (LANA) – The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the decision of the Government of National Unity to exempt Syrian citizens residing in its territory from paying fees or fines required to regularize their residency status until December 31, 2025.

The Ministry affirmed, in a statement published on its official page, that this initiative "reflects the depth of fraternal relations between the two countries and embodies Libya's support for the Syrian community and its commitment to facilitating their residency and official transactions."

On August 1, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs dispatched an official delegation to Tripoli to regularize the legal status of Syrian citizens and provide a range of urgent consular services to facilitate their situation.

Coinciding with the delegation's visit, the Syrian Embassy in the capital, Tripoli, reopened on the 20th of the same month, after a closure that lasted more than 13 years.

On August 28, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced an agreement between its Minister, Asaad al-Shaibani, and the Minister of State for Communications and Political Affairs in the Government of National Unity, to expedite the issuance of decisions exempting the Syrian community in Libya from fines resulting from residency violations.
