Misrata, September 16, 2025 (LANA) – The British Ambassador to Libya, Martin Longden, visited Misrata Municipality on Sunday, where he met with the mayor and members of its municipal council.
The Misrata Municipal Council reported on its official page that Ambassador Longden and his accompanying delegation's visit to the city comes within the framework of strengthening relations and joint cooperation, exchanging views on the current situation in Libya, and discussing a number of local challenges.
According to the council, during the meeting, the British Ambassador praised the role of Misrata and its historical, economic, and commercial importance at the national and regional levels. Mayor Mahmoud Al-Suqotri emphasized the importance of supporting decentralization and involving municipal councils in political dialogue, as they are the bodies closest to the citizens and most capable of representing them.
He explained that the meeting emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between Misrata Municipality and other municipalities in Libya, in addition to the role of the United Kingdom in supporting stability in Libya and the region.
