UNSMIL reiterated its call on all authorities to remove any obstacles preventing the holding of elections in the remaining municipalities.
The mission also welcomed, in a post on its official page, the announcement of the results for the Shwerif municipality, which had been pending since the first round of municipal council elections held in November 2024. UNSMIL commended the perseverance and professionalism of the HNEC in successfully moving forward with the electoral process in line with its mandate.
The mission reiterated its call on all authorities to remove any obstacles preventing the holding of elections in the remaining municipalities, stressing that all Libyan citizens have the right to exercise their political rights and participate in choosing their representatives in local government, especially since holding elections enhances trust and accountability between citizens and legitimate local authorities.
