Cairo, September 10, 2025 (LANA) – MP Abdul Salam Nasiya, a member of the Executive Committee of the Arab Parliamentary Union, stressed the importance of rotating the membership of the specialized committees emanating from the Union's Executive Committee, ensuring a fair geopolitical distribution among member states.
This came in a speech he delivered during his participation in the 39th session of the Executive Committee of the Arab Parliamentary Union, which was held yesterday, Tuesday, in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
In his remarks, MP Nasiya called on the Chairman and members of the Executive Committee to hold the next meeting of the committee at the headquarters of the House of Representatives in Benghazi, affirming Libya's readiness to host this important parliamentary event.
The MP noted that September 9th marks the anniversary of the founding of the African Union, which was announced in the Libyan city of Sirte. He called for an official congratulatory message to be sent to the African Union on this occasion, as part of supporting and strengthening Arab-African relations.
The House of Representatives spokesperson explained that the meeting discussed several items on the agenda, most notably: the report of the General Secretariat of the Union on the previous session, and the reports of the Interim Parliamentary Diplomatic Committee on amendments to the internal regulations of the Arab Group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The meeting also discussed the emergency item that the Arab Parliamentary Group intends to raise during the (151) General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, scheduled for next October. The meeting also discussed the draft budget for 2026, and determined the location of the fortieth session of the Union's Executive Committee.
This meeting comes within the framework of strengthening joint Arab parliamentary action and intensifying coordination between legislative councils on issues of regional and international interest.
