Libya's reserves between national vision and international standards in a scientific lecture at the University of Jufra

Pulbished on:

Sokna – September 10, 2025 (LANA) – The College of Natural Resources at Al-Jufra University organized a scientific awareness lecture entitled "Reading the National Vision for Protected Areas and Bridging the Gap between Local Visions and International Standards." The lecture was delivered by Dr. Munim Al-Wafi Barani, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Al-Abyar, University of Benghazi, and a specialist in wildlife reserves.

The lecture addressed several key topics, including defining reserves and their environmental and cultural importance, methods for managing and protecting them, and mechanisms for classifying them according to international standards. The lecture also addressed the challenges facing protected areas in Libya, particularly in light of the lack of sufficient community awareness and the urgent need for integrated efforts between local and international institutions.

In a statement to the Libyan News Agency, Dr. Barani emphasized that organizing such lectures, which have so far included the areas of Zalla and Al-Jufra and will later extend to Sabha, Traghen, and other areas in southern Libya, aims to spread the culture of nature reserves and exchange ideas among specialists, academics, and those interested in environmental issues. He considered reserves to be an important part of the environment and national cultural heritage, and must be protected and preserved.

The lecture witnessed broad participation from members of environmental associations and organizations concerned with nature and wildlife. An in-depth discussion took place on the need to develop a modern national concept for reserves and to come up with visions and recommendations that contribute to shaping a more sustainable future for reserves in Libya.
