“Tetteh and Koury meet in Benghazi with Haftar and his deputy Saddam,” UNSMIL says.

Benghazi, 8 September 2025 (Lana)—UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, and her Deputy for Political Affairs, Stephanie Koury, met yesterday in Benghazi with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), and his deputy, Gen. Saddam Haftar.

According to the UNSMIL in X, the discussions focused on the UN’s proposed political roadmap, which was announced by Tetteh in her recent briefing to the UN Security Council, leading to national elections and structured dialogue.

They also focused on the security situation in Tripoli and broader Libya, where they stressed the importance of de-escalation and preventing further conflict, in addition to the humanitarian response for Sudanese refugees in Libya.

Tetteh welcomed the LNA’s cooperation with the UN mission, while the General Commander and his deputy reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the roadmap through dialogue and inclusive consultation.
