Tripoli, 7 September 2025 (Lana) UNSMIL and Qatar called on the Government of National Unity and Deterrence Apparatus for Combatting Organized Crime and Terrorism to come to an agreement on security arrangements, advance the UNSMIL-facilitated political roadmap, and restore the country’s stability.
This came during a meeting held last Thursday by the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs in Libya, Stephanie Koury, with the Ambassador of Qatar to Libya, Khalid Al-Dosari, where the latest political and security developments in Libya were discussed.
UNSMIL said in a statement that the two sides emphasized the importance of accelerating consensus among Libyan security stakeholders on the necessary arrangements to ensure security and create the appropriate political environment towards a comprehensive solution, as facilitated by the UN Mission.
Koury stated that these efforts are consistent with what the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Hanna Tetteh, presented in her briefing to the Security Council on August 21, in which she emphasized the priority of progress on the security and political tracks.
The mission also thanked Qatar for its continued support for the United Nations' efforts in Libya and for its contribution to advancing the political process through its constructive diplomatic role.
