Misrata, September 6, 2025 (LANA) - A number of Misrata residents and those residing in neighboring areas demonstrated Friday evening in front of a protest tent erected next to the ammunition depot that exploded last Sunday night in the Sakirat area.

In a statement obtained by the Libyan News Agency, a copy of which was obtained by the Libyan News Agency, the demonstrators demanded the immediate evacuation of ammunition and weapons storage sites from the area, removing them from populated areas, and relocating their headquarters to locations that ensure the safety of the city's citizens and residents.

The demonstrators also praised Decision No. 390 of 2025 issued by the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Government of National Unity, which orders the evacuation of all ammunition storage sites within the city's residential neighborhoods, as well as headquarters and buildings not belonging to the Libyan Army. They called on those concerned to implement the decision as quickly as possible to ensure that the recent disaster that the city witnessed a few days ago does not recur.

In their statement, the demonstrators held the parties responsible for endangering the lives of civilians. They also called for an investigation and accountability for all those involved in the explosion and the spread of terror and danger that occurred last Sunday night. They emphasized the need to take legal and preventative measures to protect civilians from the recurrence of such incidents in the future, and to punish anyone who fails to comply with what they called the statement.

At the end of their statement, the demonstrators warned that the storage of ammunition and weapons within residential neighborhoods constitutes a full-fledged crime punishable by local and international law, and constitutes a crime against human rights.

In statements to a WAL correspondent, the participants in the protest urged the relevant authorities to quickly begin an inventory and documentation of all material losses and damages incurred by the citizens injured in the explosion, as well as their property and homes, and to provide them with compensation as soon as possible. They also urged the concerned authorities to identify the injured and complete the procedures for transporting them outside the country for treatment in developed countries, while emphasizing the need to issue decisions that guarantee the rights of people with disabilities.

It is noteworthy that the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, made an inspection visit on Friday evening to check on the well-being of those injured in the explosion, pledging to provide them with all necessary medical support as soon as possible.
