Moscow, September 5, 2025 (LANA) – The Russian Federation reaffirmed its readiness to provide "all possible assistance" to achieve comprehensive and sustainable stability in the military and political situation in Libya, reiterating its confidence in the Libyan people's ability to overcome the current phase and rebuild the state institutions on a sound basis.
This came in a press briefing by Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, on the sidelines of the 10th Eastern Economic Forum, held on Thursday, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Libya.
Zakharova pointed out that "relations between the two countries are based on strong historical foundations and long-standing traditions," noting that the Soviet Union and subsequently the Russian Federation contributed significantly to the development of infrastructure in Libya, particularly in vital sectors such as oil and gas.
She added: "Military and technical cooperation between the two countries has seen remarkable growth, while tens of thousands of Libyans received their higher education in Russian universities." She considered this shared heritage to be a solid foundation for strengthening cooperation in the coming phase.
Zakharova emphasized that Russia "consistently calls for preserving the unity, territorial integrity, and national sovereignty of Libya," while affirming that Moscow "is ready to provide all forms of support to achieve comprehensive and sustainable stability in the country."
She expressed the Russian leadership's confidence in the Libyans' ability to "overcome the current challenges, rebuild the state institutions, and embark on a development path that achieves the aspirations of the Libyan people." The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also reiterated her country's commitment to strengthening cooperation with Libya in various fields, in a manner that serves the interests of the peoples of both countries and contributes to supporting stability and security in the Middle East and North Africa region.
